India :
Indian Muslims are in a “safer place” as they have a “stake and space in Indian democracy” as compared to Muslims in other parts of the world, feels noted Bollywood actor Shabana Azmi; but she is unhappy that there is still discrimination...

Shabana Azmi is an accomplished actress, daughter of renowned poet Kaifi Azmi, is a nominated parliamentarian, vocal on social issues pertaining to female, poor and down, trodden etc.etc. all achieved due to the support and co-operation of colleagues and friends who did not differentiate her on caste, colour, creed, sex or religion. Still she feels feels discriminated against by the Hindu majority because she is finding it difficult to buy a house, as she says. She does not say that scores of Muslim actors, actresses, poets, lyricist, technicians, producers, financers own big houses in Mumbai and still buy property without much obstacle.
The irony is that, that the same lady has no words of sympathy for Kasmiri Pandits who have been driven away from their homes by the Muslim majority in J&K.

I have issues with personalities like Shabana Azmi, who I consider the real representatives of the Muslim community rather than frenzy clerics who have no semblance of sanity and do not understand their own religion, when they also join the non-issues. What’s the compulsion I do not understand.
When Shabana says that Muslims face discrimination in India what’s the big deal? In a country where Hindus face discrimination by their own sects of Hindus should she be beating her chest on the discrimination of Muslims.
Poor of this country face discriminations from rich then she have some issues. Less educated face discrimination from the better educated sones then she has some issues.
But an issue to rake that Muslims do ot get house in Mumbai and she and her husband have faced problems. Why doesn’t she ask Shaharukh Khan hw has he been able to buld Mannat, ask Salman Khan how does he own a house not one but a couple of them and the list can go on......
In fact what she has got from all of us I think she would have no respect for her. Shabana ji I respect you for your art, good work, humanness, goodness and many more things and I think the thought has never gone into my head that you are a Muslim.
Like a multitudes of people I would like to remember you for being honest, objective and above all an Indian. Hence, do not pent up non-essential discaradble issue like a muslim not getting a house in Mumbai. Even if so i owuld like to join hands with and a whole lot of other Indians to fight this.
But for God sake do not fall prey to clerics.

I kind of agree with you Alok-In a country where we have Hindus’ itself divided into different sects and are killing each other for the sake of the same division, I hardly find it an issue that the minority gets discriminated. The real devil here is the Indian Democracy. The political system in this country is a shame, a shame that drains this country of all its quality. It is not me who wants to fight a Muslim but those goons create such circumstances that we eventually start getting involved. The need is a revolution where people who deserve are nominated and elected to rule (which should rather be serve) and their effort is constantly under a scanner from an honest body but then such things don’t happen in a democratic world, do they!
